Greene County is located in the southwest corner of Pennsylvania and is situated within the northeastern region of the Appalachian coal basin.
We are a small, rural community with a long-standing blue-collar history of farming, logging, coal mining and natural gas extraction.
We have a wonderful community but the environmental issues from a century ago remain today, and new challenges present themselves from nonrenewable resource extraction, land use practices, and water resource degradation.
The GCWA is a non-profit watershed organization made up of volunteer watershed associations and community members that came together in an effort to protect and preserve our water resources so future generations will have clean, safe, drinking water, watershed based recreation, a sustainable economy, and the opportunity to enjoy the natural beauty that make each of our watersheds special.
Our Values
It's not just a matter of doing the right thing for the environment, it's a matter of doing the right thing for future generations.
